Read The F’n Manual – Game On With Albizu

OK peoples, my man Jeff and I were talking a few weeks ago and in the midst of our usual geeky dialogue, he suggested I take some time to ramble on about something that I like, preferably video games. Wouldn’t you know it? He was RIGHT. I DO like video games, and I CAN ramble! But, seeing as how part of what I’m hoping to do is keep you, the reader, interested, I will try not to be too long winded and keep the game descriptions and opinions short.

Now that E3 is over I have no excuse for trying to watch a live E3 video online in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the next new game when I should be working. This doesn’t mean that I’m not still thinking of those games, trying to keep my job so I can make money and buy those games, and wishing that those games were out now. There are a plethora of games that I just can’t wait to play! So, without further ado, here are my top anticipated games in no particular order:

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Maaaan, just being on this site you better be thinking of getting this game. This looks to be a definitive batman experience. I mean, you’re IN Arkham Asylum with all the nutbags you as Batman put in there! Its stealth, action, problem solving and gadgets. YES! One of the biggest sells for me with this game is the use of the voice talents from the Batman the Animated series cartoon, Kevin Conroy as Batman and that’s right, Mark Hamill as The Joker! To add to that, a video has just been released showing Batman is not the only playable character. Mr. J, as Harley calls him, is unlockable!

Modern Warfare 2

This looks to be an action packed, story driven thriller, just like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, this game’s predecessor… but better. In the latest trailer it looks like you’re escaping a castle by way of a rope attached to a helicopter. Anytime there is a helicopter over an exploding castle in a game, you know it’s going to be good. Plus, you get to drive and shoot from a snowmobile… a snowmobile man! I’ve heard this from other people, and I don’t mind repeating; this looks like a dope GI JOE game (more on that later).

Ok, I’m not a HALO nut but I can appreciate the game play, graphics, and awesome online attributes. I like being Master Chief and having the ability to turn over Warthogs and jump a zillion feet in the air, but something about this Halo 3 spinoff looks grimier, visceral, and desperate. I like that. Aside from having to shoot aliens and all, it seems like it would play like a more realistic shooter. It’s worth hitting up.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

I’m a big fan of the first Ultimate Alliance game. I played that game until I couldn’t anymore. Although this new one has character power team ups, looks to be based on CIVIL WAR, and possibly better character detail and graphics, my main reason for wanting to get this game is the simple fact you can control a plethora (see could’ve used humungous but that word is too big) of Marvel characters with all their powers. I just hope newer costumes are available for each character to change into. I also hope that in this one you get to play as some bigger name/body characters like Apocalypse, Galactus, Thanos, or a Sentinel. THAT would be cool!

Speaking of Marvel, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is a must have. Classic, nuff said.

Assassin’s Creed 2

The original is one of my favorites for its richness of historical detail and graphics, and in depth story. The previews for this game seemed to have upped the ante. No longer in the middle-east but in Renaissance era Italy, the assassin ancestor is now equipped with new weapons, moves (he SWIMS!) and the ability to fly, albeit with the help of a famous inventor mentor, friggn’ Leonardo DaVinci!! I have to check this game out if only to be able to make those new quick double kills…. yeah, I know, that sounds bad.

Look, it is my opinion that if one could ever even consider being proud of calling oneself a geek in the realm of movies, comics, toys, and video games that one would HAD TO have seen, and LOVED the original Ghostbusters movie. It’s right up there with Goonies, but that’s another article. You can get a pass if you weren’t really feeling Ghostbusters 2, but the first Ghostbusters is an essential element to modern day “geekdom.” Hell, you don’t even have to be a geek to love it… but if you do, you probably are. ANYWAY, that being said, you have to appreciate that this game was created to be canon with the original films. It has original writers, story, and best of all, original characters/actors. From what has been said, it could be considered a third movie. Slimer is even in it! And man, who doesn’t want to play a game where you get to use a proton back!?? I don’t want to know that person.

Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)

Yo, Mr. George Lucas, thank you very much for creating the Star Wars Universe, a great many of us love you for that. Good job. But sir, please, please watch the E3 trailer for this game and realize that THAT is what Star Wars fans want in not just a game but a movie! Star Wars: The Old Republic, is currently in development for the PC by BioWare Austin and a supplemental team at BioWare Edmonton. It’s an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game based in the Star Wars universe. The Old Republic will be released for Microsoft Windows. I really liked playing the original Star Wars: ToR, and the sequels when they came out. I’ve never been one to enjoy the type of game where you have to talk to people all over the place, but Star Wars: The Old Republic just looks fun! If the new style and game play is even remotely like the trailer you cannot pass this one up. Battlefront III doesn’t look like its happening anytime soon so I will definitely be getting my Star Wars video game fix from this one. I don’t care that there is no Yoda, Luke, Vader, or Lando. Nah wait, Lando is cool. But still, this game is going to be awesome. PICK THIS UP.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – The Game

If what this game is being hyped to be, it will be ok. I’m a little skeptical because of the bad taste I got from the first movie’s game but I’m willing to give this one a shot. The best part of the first one was just transforming. That’s great and all, but the game itself just wasn’t all that interesting. I hope this game solves the first game’s flaws of poor combat, AI, contrast shading, difficulty, repetition, and load times. We’re just going to have to wait and see.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra The Game

Awwww man… And that’s not a good “awwww man.” That’s a quiet, “awwww man.” Let me clear something up; of course I haven’t played the game yet, or seen the movie but I have to say, I am a BIG G.I. Joe fan. The first comics I ever collected were G.I. JOE. I put away my Masters of the Universe to play with G.I. Joes (a big deal, man). I still know plot lines, character origins, cartoon dialogues, and even wake up from cold sweats screaming “Cobra La La La La La La La La La!” I love the Joes. So, please understand, I have a hard time accepting the mainstream things that are happening with my beloved franchise. The movie is another article, but this game, I don’t know… I just wished there was more. Look, it might be great, but this thing is supposed to be coming out soon and it doesn’t look all that ready. I suppose it’s a good thing that the trailers and web spots seems to show other characters like Wild Bill, and even Gung-Ho but I guess I was hoping for something along the lines of Modern Warfare 2 or, with a stretch, Gears of War 2 with story, detail, and game play mechanics. Hell, it kind of reminds me of Contra, and that’s not a bad thing, its just I WANT G.I. Joe to be awesome. I guess this is just another one we are going to have to wait and see.

Project Natal

Wooo! This is some SCARY SH**!! If, for some unknown reason, you don’t know what Natal is shame on you. All geeks should shun you. Natal is a new device with infrared cameras and software to hook up to your Xbox360 that will be able to read body movements, facial expressions, voice recognition and colors. This is some Minority Report stuff. And guess who endorses it? Yep, that’s right, Steven Spielberg. Look, I’m with this revolutionary new way of gaming and all, but the whole time I was watching the preview video and demonstration I could not help thinking that somewhere in the underlying code of this software is the word “Skynet.” I get it. This is Microsoft’s way of trying to attract the non-gamer… and killing the Wii. If all you have to do is stand there and move your body WITHOUT CONTROLS, who wouldn’t want to give this a whirl? It looks damn fun and easy! So fun and easy that your Aunt Beatrice could jump in and play along. Of all the games, devices, and initiatives, this is by far one of the most anticipated! Everyone is tightlipped as to when this baby is coming out, but world dominating software takes a while so I’d image Fall 2010 or later. When it does come out though, you must make a choice, fight the machines, or invite them into your home. Hey, it will be more fun to let them in.

Well, that’s all I have for now for you guys and Jeff “J. Jonah Jameson” Moss. I know there are more games out there to cover but again, trying to keep it “short.” I hope you gamers and even non-gamers are just as psyched as I am about these new games and hopeful that I’m wrong about the Hasbro games.

Till next time…
