Notice that all the books from DC you are looking forward to are being written by Geoff Johns? Writer of the year? He did steer the company. So I got the Absolute Kingdom Come from my girlfriend, and it is awesome. It is the comic book movie I swear I will make when my career takes off, that and Batman.

In Dark Reign did you guys consider that the mystery man in the doorway was the Sentry/Void. I have to go through Secret Invasion again but remember how early in the arc the Sentry is taken out by causing his personality to alter, and his eyes go black, implying the Void personality may have taken over. What do you think? Who else could keep Doom in line then the guy who ripped off his mask and slapped him around like a little girl?

As much as I'm feeling the tingle of excitement over Dark Reign, that's more from the ending of SI 8 than this preview. I really felt that the characterizations of the White Queen and especially Namor were way off, and Namor's looks were really really rough. Like he was a dumb Bronx thug than the imperial ruler we have come to know and love and be wary of. He just seemed totally unprepared for the crowd he was in with.It can't just be me, eh?Later :)

Hey guys, long time no....comment. I just got to the city, and right away starting hitting up comic book shops for give ideas for my little sister. I have slowly been grooming her into a nerd, starting with Buffy and using that to move into Astonishing X-men and Scott Pilgrim. Muhahaha! Now I'm looking at getting her smaller, less cape and tights style books. Exciting stuff. Man, I want most of those things you listed, but without any cash flow right now I have to give some very specific hints to my loved ones.

I think that Dark Avengers Poster is purposley misleading. The new big thing is called Dark Reign. That don't mean puppies and rainbows. That means some serious change is happening. I think that change is Norman Osborn as Director of Sheild. Here are the facts. Everyone is all of a sudden madly in love with Osborn. I think its because he somehow killed/got rid of all the skrulls or at least ended that war. He saved the president, and all the president see's his Iron Man leaving the fight and Osborn wrecking house in same said fight. He stole extremly important data about skrulls from Fury at the end of Deadpool #3, which would explain my theory of him getting rid of the skrulls. Tony stark is loosing the director of shield book, seems like a perfect place for the most loved man on the world now to step in. Good ole Gobby. Back to the poster and the mis leading part. I think Jeff was right, that it might actually be Venom. The one looking like hawkeye would be Bullseye. The woman would be moonstone. I got nothing for wolverine, for all i know he could just want to take over every book. And the iron patriot, would be osborn. I only made that connection because of the solicitation. "The greatest hero in the marvel universe". If My theory about osborn ending the war is right, it would fit perfectly. I jsut don't know why anyone would just jump into some tony stark armor haha. But yea pretty much i think Dark Reign is gonna be about the Villans rooted in high seats of power and them running the world now. Yea I know that was long but you guys got the brain here a workin so i decided to spit my two cents. Keep up the good work.

I've found Heroes season 3 to be very up and down. Then again, I didn't watch any of season 2, so maybe I'm more optimistic than most.
Getting stuff signed gives you a good chance to go and talk to the artist/writer. Not every artist/writer takes the time to get a booth at conventions so their fans can come and talk to them, like some awesome Toronto-based comic teams.
Good stuff as always guys.

<p>True. The difference being Seinfeld was not only way more interesting, but at the time it was pretty groundbreaking by being "a show about nothing." Also, people liked the characters in Seinfeld because they were quirky and flawed, unlike The Bear, who's just abrasive for the sake of abrasiveness.</p>
<p>Also, the "show about nothing" took a LOT of work to make it appear like it was about nothing. The Bear Stories comes off like a conversation between friends goofing off instead of a plotted story.</p>
<p>Wow, all that and I haven't even read it since I wrote this review lol.</p>

Seinfeld was a show about nothing. Sure, I guess Seinfeld wasn't filthy, but it had its moments.

I'm just glad my wife isn't all comics-savy. She'd probably tear me a new one. I like the "using comics in the classroom" angle. I remember back in elementary school reading Tin Tin, Asterix, and Lucky Luke. They helped become a good bi-lingual Canadian.

I'm a recent fan. Found your podcast on iTunes at the beginning of the year and have been listening ever since.

Like the ladies said, I am one of the girls who reads manga/hentai and it is mainly because the story lines are so involved, in depth, and the characters are so in developed - depending on which manga you read; and of course the sex. ;-)

It was good to hear this podcast. A lot of what the ladies said is true. I used to read comic books and stopped partly due to the fact that I was made to feel out of place at the comic book store or I wasn't 'serious' about comic books. The main reason was because there weren't any good storylines I was interested in for the female characters that weren't typical and cliché. They were always short mini comics outside the main comic that lasted about 5 issues - not worth it.

I do miss reading comics, which is why I listen to your podcast on a regular basis. The only comics I read now are online and they are manga-esque. So good show! I look forward to the next episode.

Definitely one of your best podcast. I'm so down for another fem con. That was actually really enlightening to hear comics from a girls perspective. See I'm a black male so I have opinions from a black guys perspective, like for example what they were doing with black panther for awhile. But to here from another side is always refreshing and interesting.

I am all for Gossling as Hal. I have always thought Nathan Fillion would be great, or a much younger Dennis Quaid, but I like Gossling as an actor. He is not really the Superhero type though, but niether is Downey Jr.

So I'm cute (my mom says so) , why am I not on this show?

I think that this was merely a publicity stunt to garner more comic book sales from this supposed mistake. It's kinda like when a celebrity gets arrested or when a secret sex tape comes that just so happens to coincide with a celebrity's show, merchandise, or album that same week or month.

<p>I agree, apparently it was Frank Miller who insisted that the words be printed and <em>then</em> blacked out. Either way, I find it hard to believe that the book passed through so many hands and no one caught this error before things started reaching the retail level.</p>

Now I am not going to pretend I know the ins and outs of the comic book industry, but I once heard of a thing called editors. Now, if I remember correctly, it was the editor's job to make sure obscene or offensive materials never make it to print...not just make sure they are sharpied out. I have never understood blacked out documents. Why not just erase them? With my computer I can take my head, put it on a scantily clad scarlett johansson body, and have me jumping out a plane with guns ablazin'. Why can't they just remove the words before they print them? I don't get it folks.

See the way I saw it in Mighty Avengers is that it was an insult to Hank Pym. He is so self conscience, so pessimistic, that he just doubts everything. And that always over powers the skrull impersonator. Cause even though the Skrulls invasion plan is quite genius, they are kinda running into it with so much confidence. And confidence is what Hank Pym has never had cause well...hes a little girl. But as much as of a depressing character Hank Pym he is also one of the smartest minds in the world. He would be one of the first scientific minds that would be called on to deal with the threat.

Also they couldn’t make a bunch of Reed Richards clones to attack earth cause they all thought they were Reed Richards. Would be risky to try and brain wash the smartest man in the universe. And it would be lame if a whole bunch of stretchy guys were attacking the earth. And they had to keep killing him cause the key word is he is smarter than all of them. He would of eventually broken out and just rocked their world. Remember that one was gonna like release a gas before they shot him in the face. Just the way I look at it.

I had a great time at the FanExpo. Sure I spent too much money, considering I am unemployed now, but I use those comics to fill my free time so it is all a cycle of some kind. It is crazy to see how much the expo has grown. This year was my tenth year going, and it is in no way like it was before. My first convention was as big as a high school gymnasium with Micheal Turner as the only guest (who sketched me a sweet golden-agey Superman) and the Spawn car. Comparing that to now, the con has gone bug-nut crazy on steroids, and I love it.

Thanks for being so gracious at the con (FanExpo)! It was really cool to talk about comics with people who collected past the Age of Apocolypse.

You guys (both Jeff and Donnie/Questy) were (are) friendly and awesome. Keep it up, please!

SI#5 was pretty entertaining fo sho. But don't you think the skrully revealer gun was a bit contrived? And that whole splash page at the end to vow revenge for what we knew would happen? I dunno. Seemed like deadline writing in my opinion. But the best piece of kickass comicbook espianage I've seen (Whatserface: Ageng of S.W.O.R.D.)!

Take care, guys

Wow, I'm surprised you guys didn't spend the entire show just praising the awesomeness of Secret Invasion #5. That issue was like putting all the Marvel characters in a bottle. And then dousing them in super special awesome sauce, and then sprinkle everyone with immense rage. After that you of course need to shake, not stir it. And Voila..Secret Invasion #5

<p>Ha ha ha!</p>
<p>Those are both great lists!!</p>
<p>Now that I have read Hulk #5, I have to disagree with you. It think it was a great issue, and the fact he defeated Thor on "a technicality" as you put it, made it that much cooler. As far as I know, no one has ever gotten the best of Thor like that, so it was pretty awesome to see.</p>
<p>This book has been pretty disappointing to this point, but I think it really picked up with this issue.</p>
<p>We can lose "A-Bomb" anytime now though...</p>

Oh and these two lists are hilarious if anyone cares to take a look. This one is about 6 worst super hero husbands. On the list are Spiderman, Hawkeye, Hank Pym, Reed Richards, Hulk and Cyclops
http://www.cracked.com/article_16512_p2.html

And then the next is 6 creepiest comic characters..which I'm actually still laughing about.

Oh C'mon!...You liked Hulk #4? I'm not going to lie, I did kind of chuckle when he punched The Watcher in the face. But this red Hulk can't just go around kicking everyones ass all willy nilly. Thor..is...a...God. If it was an even match I would be less inclined to whine like a 12 year old school girl who's in need of her Justin Timberlake fix but he Whooped Thor. And then grabbed his hammer due to technicality which i thought was lame. And then he...JUMPED to the moon. He Jumped...to..the moon. If that doesn't prove the lameness i don't know what does.

Sorry for ranting. Had to get that off my chest. I also think that that glowing statue thing scaring the bajesus out of everyone in Ultimate Origins is the Ultimate Watcher...up for discussion. It might even be too obvious for me to have just said it out loud which would then make me look like a fool...but whatever.
Keep on casting love your stuff

I just got through volume 8 and holy crap did things ever get shaken up. It's a real testament to the awesomeness of the creative team that I can walk away from such an unpredictable book and still feel like shit hit the fan. There was so much pandemonium in this volume that I'm still doing a head count to see who could possibly be around for the next one! Makes me almost wish I wasn't a trade-waiter.

<p>NPH? In a Chris Nolan flick? I dunno if that would fly. If Joss Whedon was making a Batman movie, maybe. But then again, if Joss Whedon was making a Batman movie, I'm sure Nathan Fillion would be Batman, and that would be... well, it would be awful. Eliza would be a great Catwoman though, in any regard.</p>

Ha, Donnie's been replaced and, by the sounds of it, the new co-host is a wind-up set of joke teeth.
Seriously though, there's surely some comedic gold to be found in pairing up a die-hard comic fan with someone for whom the words "clone saga," "Kyle Rayner" and (as evidenced in this week's podcast) "Archangel" mean absolutely nothing. Brilliant.
All that and Dale Eaglesham seems like a really good dude. What more can I ask for in a workday distraction?

<p>I agree, I wasn't always a fan of his art, but when he nailed it, he nailed it. Also, I think it's safe to say no one drew Comic Book Babes the way Michael Turner did. There's no argument that he was a major contributer to Comics as we know them, and it's always sad to see someone so young pass away.</p>

One of my favorite things about Michael Turner is that he said in interviews he could not draw feet to save his life, and I always found it fun to see how he would avoid drawing feet in his art. The man had some really dynamic and striking artwork, and no one made The Flash look cooler in my opinion. It is always sad when the comic community looses a great, and that is definitely what this is.

<p>Interesting points, David. I hear what you are saying about the angier=bigger aspect of things, but I think to have him do that might have been to easy an out for the final fight. It's possible that it might come up in the next movie as Banner gains more control over the Hulk.</p>

Spoilers

Okay, I dug the movie, it was cool, although I didn't have the same problems with the first that many did. I think they could have done with a bit less of the emotional elements they tried to play at with it, but when it came to smashing stuff, I thought it was still top-notch. As for this one, great movie with 2 glaring exceptions that I could see, the first being that the Hulk doesn't get bigger. Very disappointed by this as this is one of his trademark hooks. Madder he gets, bigger he gets, stronger he gets. There were a few very cherry opportunities for this to have happened as well, for instance when Abomination has Hulk pressed up against the wall and stabs him in the chest with an elbow spike, or when he gets nailed with the chains/weights. The other point being that Betty Ross screams at him to stop just short of killing the Abomination. Realistically if people were in the Hulk's shoes, having witnessed the Death and mayhem caused in the by that point very short existence of the Abomination being in existence, they would definitely recognize the advantage of putting him down for good.

I just watched the hulk movie yesterday, i found it pretty good and a lot better than the previous one(s). One little "easter egg" i found was the guard Bruce bribes with a pizza is Lou Ferrigno, which is awesome. For those of you who don't know who Lou Ferrigno is, he was the first(I think) guy to ever play the hulk, in 1978. Other than that the movie was pretty cool, but there were certain scenes where the clichès made me almost want to look away, like where Bruce says "I have to do this" and miss Ross says "don't go." That got a little too sappy for me. Smashing was great, the bad guy got beat, and I left the theater with a good feeling and the desire to vigorously smash things, so mission accomplished.

Donnie Does Trinity is perfect! Though I did think the coffee scene was well written, I do agree McDaniel has some weird looking art.

By the way, nice job with the Spill Canvas in there.

This is really excellent to hear. I don't think any fan could help being a bit turned off by the idea of another Hulk movie when it was first announced. However, after the information began to leak (like the great Edward Norton for instance) I have not been able to ignore how good this looks.

I was trying to contain my excitment (to avoid another Transformers or Crystal Skull), but thanks to you I am very much a nerdy fan boy.

No sweat amigo. I'm a big ol' fan of the comic and the cast.

I dig on music about as much as you. I used to have my own show on 105 WTOS weekend overnights where they let me dig out all the indi crap I could find. I still have all those old CDs from the library in my own private collection.

Ok, I'll give it a shot.

1) The Wax - No Reason For Me
	~Self explanatory, really.~
2) Flogging Molly - Every Dog Has It's Day
~A little Celtic sound for Murph. One of my favorites from the band.~
3) The Snakehandlers - Music Made a Man Out of Me
~Every mix need a little country. And, if music is such a big part of your life...~
4) Patent Pending - Cheer Up Emo Kid
~One for that pudgy little emo dude~
5) Jims Big Ego - Stress
	~NO, YOU SWITCH TO DECAF!~
6) Weird Al Yankovic - Dare to be Stupid
	~Better then a jello sandwich~
7) Tomoyasu Hotei - Battle Without Honor Or Humanity
~Jamies epic anime battles need a sound track~
8) Winter - Beer, Beer, Beer
	~Nuff said~
9) Ben Godwin - Skin and Bone
~I can hear this cued up on the latest strip, during the staredown. Heh...desk trolls.~
10) Blind Melon - No Rain
	~Theme for my favorite strip.~

Ha. "Sweet Donnie." That was my favourite part.

I've heard nothing but good things about that Captain Britain series--did you guys read Wisdom? It came out last year by the same writer and supposedly this new series was born out of positive reaction to it...

I was really confused by Batman 676. Can't say I'm intrigued enough to buy the next issue.

I love Grant Morrison, but I'm not digging his Batman

As shameful as it is to admit, Donnie totally bested me at Marvel vs. Capcom. I wouldn't say I got 'dominated' though. In my defense, it wasn't Goldeneye. FanExpo 2008, Qwesty. You're mine!

Anyone know where I can go practice?

Hey. Don't hassle the Hoff.

Ignorance is the fuel by which the internet fires burn my friend. Check out anything written by Brian Andersen to prove that.

I just dropped Wolverine Origins when the Deadpool arc finished. I love Wolverine, I think he is one of the best and hardest to write characters in comic books. This book however really did not live up to its title. Jeph Loeb's short run on the title recently did more to explain Logan's (or should I say James?) origin than the last few years of Origins has.

*Sigh* Though there are so many Wolverine books out, I guess it doesn't matter. That dude's face should just be the logo for Marvel.

I'm pretty sure that IS Cap's shield but i don't think it's there because Stark was actually working on it. It's there to be a reference to poke at the nerds (read: us) and get us thinking about the Captain America movie coming up on the horizon.

Donnie, I loved this flick. I own the show on DVD, and I seemed to be the only person around here that was going crazy waiting for this movie to come out. I have so far convinced 6 people to go to it instead of Narnia (which will make all kinds of family-friendly-kid-totting-parent cash) .

Did you also get a big stupid grin on your face every time the music would pull from the old theme song? I couldn't help it.

I posted this under the wrong thread before, but check out the dickhead reactions to Sam Jackson playing fury:

There's a whole lot of "But Nick Fury's a white guy..." and David Hasseholf's name even gets thrown around. Bah.
