This week on The Watchtower its a DC Free-For-All!

Starting of course, with this:

DC’s new Logo is… something, but that’s not all! Seconds after we wrapped last week’s show, DC cancelled 6 titles and announced 6 more! We break down this “Second Wave” of the New 52!

Also, Rob Liefeld’s Hawk & Dove has been cancelled. But don’t worry, he’s got not one, not two, but THREE new jobs up his sleeve. We marvel as you do.

All that plus the Forecast and an announcement so huge it will change the way you listen to this show forever!!

I don’t like the new DC logo at all. Not only because it doesn’t scream “comics”, but because it’s a cheap design. It looks like something I could throw together in 15 minutes, using Adobe Illustrator. Well, I guess that’s what you’d use to design any logo, really, but you get my point. At least the last logo didn’t look like stock fonts and cheap effects.

DC is sitting on an army of artists and this is the best they can do? Who did they hire to do this, I wonder? Not The Designers Republic, because then it would be the text alone, in Helvetica.

In this podcast you are concerned about the writer on the new ‘Dial H for Hero’ book. China Mieville is a excellent author. He is a 3 time winner of the Arthur C. Clarke award among others. Since you are unfamiliar with him I would compare him to Neil Gaimen to give you an idea about his work. It is fantasy with some steampunkish elements. (I’m really not doing him justice here). I suggest you read Perdido Street Station to get an idea about his work. He is one of the best fantasy/horror-like writer out there today. The City and The City is also an great work. He will come to the table with excellent ideas. I could see is work will appeal to the Vertigo lovers out there.

I want to mention some great art I’ve seen lately. First I want to say that Emma Rios’s art in Amazing Spider-Man 677 was really great. I was so hoping she would be the guest artist in the follow-up Daredevil issue but that wasn’t so. I’m ready for Rios to get an ongoing gig there at Marvel and either Spider-Man or Daredevil suits that style really well.

Second, there should be a hardcover coming out soon for Joe Casey & Nick Dragota’s Vengeance. Dragota’s art in that was also very cool. I’d buy something else by Dragota.

This podcast is so full of win because it mentioned three things near and dear to my heart – Hedge Funds, Cobra Hiss Tanks and Seaquest DSV, lol!
