This week on The Watchtower, it’s the end of the world!
Slave Labor Graphics has announced it’s going all-digital with it’s single issues. The beginning of the end? or a shrewd business move?
Also, could X-Sanction be Marvel’s answer to some other time-spanning stories of late? One observer seems to thing so…
Plus, there’s a new member of the Teen Titans who’s Living Out Loud. But is anybody really listening?
All that plus The Forecast, New 52 week 2 reviews and the return of Questy’s Rant Farm!

“…to name something that’s super-relevant.” – Zing!
“…I don’t even know the things you are saying now…” – Awesome.
“…Buy our gay-kid book!” – So good.
“…I’m in the pot. stir it up.” – Lovely.
As you can tell, I love Donnie. Seriously. I will have his babies, but he was pretty damn slow on Jeff’s very clear comparison of X-sanction to Flashpoint…Still havin’ yo babies though dawg. Wink.
Gay AND Hispanic…isn’t that once-again overkill in the way that Black AND Hispanic was last month?
So you guys like Klaw? Would you say he’s Klawesome?
I’m 100% with Jeff on the price-jacking issue. It would be different if the book had been out for a while and it was officially a collector’s piece, but right away like that is a total douche-move. Let’s see the same store try that with all the new #1s and find out how their customer base feels.

Yeah I would never go back to that store. That’s gouging pure and simple. Good thing I go to 4th Wall. I even saw the same thing at the Montreal Comiccon where dealers were charging an arm and a leg for books that weren’t worth more than cover price.
And Jeff I totally agree about Batman andRobin #1. It felt like the same book as before just with Bruce instead. The dynamic between Batman and Robin was almost identical. But I still really liked it and will keep reading it. So far I haven’t read any New 52 books that I’ll drop, but then I was very picky about what I put on my pull list.
And I would totally buy a book advertised as “our gay kid book”

Okay, so I didn’t used to read too much DCU stuff. Big into Vertigo, but I, like many others am picking up as many of these new books as I can. There’s lots of crap of course (Hawk & Dove, JLI, Resurection Man, Blue Beetle etc.). I will say though that there is enough new stuff that I like that my wife will again be starting to complain about the stacks.
I read Red Hood & the Outlaws or whatever it’s called. Yep, got a boner. And I NEVER get boners reading comics. I read a review over at Bleeding Cool of some chick who gave this a 1 out of 5. That’s bullshit. I read X-Men in the 90s and Scott Lobdell never wrote anything this good back then. The art is also wicked. Yes, it’s the most gratuitous book I’ve read in a long time, but it’s healthy to have at least one of these types of books on the pull list isn’t it?
As for non-DC shit; there are a couple new titles that I picked up first issues of. I think you mentioned Ninja Turtles. That shit is dope right there. I bought extra copies cuz I new I could get some homies who aren’t comic fans anymore back into it with that shit. Mission accomplished. There are two more I wanted to mention:
An indie book called “Haunted City” which I’m totally rooting for because its sick.
And another new miniseries called “The Vault”, which is maybe a bit too fast moving plot-wise, but is definitely a cool concept and a worthwhile read.
That’s my two bits for the week. It’s been a while since I got that wordy.

I just read this article at Newsarma, http://www.newsarama.com/comics/hey-thats-my-cape-catwoman-starfire-110928.html, and I have to say I agree with her. As a parent I want to be able to show comics to my son when he’s old enough. He’s already developed a love of Superman and Spider-man and he’s never read an issue. Just seen pictures and cartoons. But unfortunately when he’s old enough to read he won’t be able to read some of my books because of the violence and sex. Don’t get me wrong I’ve loved every issue I’ve read of the new 52 but at the same time I know as a parent I can’t let my son read a book where Jokers face is peeled off his skull. I think there has to be a happy medium without having kids books and adult books. Although that Detective issue was awesome.

Donnie and Jeff: I don’t want to see you two dick-riding Firestorm just because Ethan is your homie. Be honest. It wasn’t very good.

That price-jacking issue is rampant in the ‘burbs outside of Toronto. It started with ‘Batgirl’ where I went to multiple shops and they had 10+ copies behind the counter and followed through to ‘Batman & Robin’ and ‘Ultimate Comics Spider-Man 1′.
I walked into one mall, located in “the largest mall in Ontario” to be specific without naming names, and their argument was, if I can paraphrase:
“When I look online, Justice League #1 is selling online for $15. What am I supposed to do? Sell it for $4 so some guy can turn around and sell it for $20?”
In a word: yes.
When people go insane for, in a dated example, Tickle Me Elmo and they sell for $1000 online, Toys ‘R Us still sells them at the listed price. Chapters didn’t raise the price of the new Harry Potter. Best Buy doesn’t raise the price of Call of Duty.
This is exclusive to comics and some scummy retailers who will continue to drive possible new customers away to take advantage of their regulars.
