Episode 203: Goint Back To One

This week on The Watchtower, huge news that has rocked the comics world!

Yes, that’s right Katherine Curtis, the Naked Nerd is back!

Also, there may be something about DC comics rebooting their entire universe with all-new first issues in September. Might we have something to say about that? Yeah, I’d like to think so.

We also stage a requiem for a planet, throw out a whole bunch of stuff in the Forecast and do a little re-booting of our own.

All that, and the Wonder Woman TV show that will not die!!

I can’t wait for DC to reboot. It’ll be great to be able to start reading some of my favorite books right from the beginning with a whole new continuity.

Dammit. If you’re gonna have spoilers, can you list the issues/titles you’ll be spoiling in the description of the episode? You drop them so without warning.

I’m Canadian and I gave Alpha Flight a chance. I think Donnie’s just messing with us because it was sooooooo bad. Hey Jeff, whatever happened to Why Don’t You Own This?

I didn’t think it was bad! I thought it was a good book, I’m interested to see what kind of story it leads into. That said, I don’t think we need an ongoing Alpha Flight series or anything :)

WDYOT will return eventually, I just need to start setting aside some time for it amongst a couple of other projects I’m bouncing around in the ol’ brainpan.

And apologies about that, Joel. I hate spoilers more than anything, but sometimes in the course of conversation they just kinda pop out :(

Donnie, I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion on Fear Itself. There was no build up towards the story like Secret Invasion or Siege. It’s almost like an event for events sake. Beyond some of the art the story is doing nothing for me. But I find that to be the case with most of Fraction’s work.

My initial reaction on DC was this is going to be the dumbest thing ever, largely because I fear for what’s going to happen to the Bat books, particularly Batman Inc and Morrison’s brilliant run. But as I mull it over I think it could be a good thing. I’m not a DC guy but this could get me to grab a couple of titles I normally wouldn’t. Which is the whole point.

loved the episode. it’s nice to have the additional dynamic of Katherine every once in a while.

i needed a place to put this little bit of nerd rage, and i thought there might be a sympathetic ear here. i’m a little upset about the announcement i read on IGN this morning (http://comics.ign.com/articles/117/1172822p1.html) about the plans for the batman books post-renumber. These were the titles i was looking forward to the most. I don’t currently read Detective Comics or Batman, in large part because the issue numbers are a bit intimidating. I have, however, been very much enjoying Batman and Robin, and i just picked up issue 6 of Batman, Inc. on Moss’s recommendation.

Now i find out that (spoiler alert?) that Bruce Wayne will be taking back the Batman role in Detective, Batman, and also Batman and Robin. I know that there are still titles to be announced and that Dick will still have a role in the universe, but i feel like all of the work that’s been done to establish the relationship between Dick and Damien is now undone, especially in Batman and Robin.

Crossing my fingers that this will all work out.

Anyone see X-Men First Class yet? Three little words took this film over the threshold to awesomeness for me, but I won’t spoil it. If you’ve seen it though, you probably know what I’m talking about.

Alpha Flight was a decent book, but I can’t see myself reading it on a regular basis. It’s one of those things I’d pick up once in a while for curiosity’s sake.
