San Diego Comic-Con Headline Highlights

The San Diego International Comic Convention wrapped up Sunday night with a moving tribute to the late Micheal Turner.
There were so many announcements made by just about every comic book company in the face of the earth, that it’s virtually impossible to cover them all. Instead, we present a look at the Headline Highlights from this years SDCC.
Thursday:
-C.B. Cebulski announced the new big X-Men event, “X Infernus.”
-Marvel announced an upcoming Agents of Atlas ongoing.
-Marvel announced Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel, a new series about a black superhero in the ‘60s that wore a costume that concealed the color of his skin.
-Marvel announced a new War Machine ongoing series, replacing Iron Man: Director of SHIELD after “Secret Invasion”
- Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon returning to Punisher with Punisher: War Zone, a weekly 6-issue miniseries, set in the “Garth Ennis Marvel Knights Punisher.”
-DC announced a new writer of Green Arrow/Black Canary - Andrew Kreisberg
-DC EiC Dan DiDio said that Batman: R.I.P. will come to a definite end in November, and then brought out a “special guest” working on Batman in the near future - Kevin Smith. Smith announced that he’s doing a Batman mini-series, called Batman: Cacophony, that features Onomatopoeia, the villain Smith introduced during his Green Arrow run.
-Gale Anne Hurd, Ray Stevenson and Julie Benz spoke about the coming Punisher War Zone film, and showed a new trailer
-Marvel today announced a new project with Stephen King, which will see King’s story “N” published exclusively for small screen digital delivery
Friday:
-Dark horse made the announcement of a sequel to BPRD 1946 .
-Frank Miller’s big screen adaptation of the Will Eisner classic, “The Spirit” had its moment at Comic-Con on Friday
-Six of the original Image Comics founders, and Robert Kirkman are teaming for a unique Image crossover
-Classic DC property “The Haunted Tank” gets new life under the Vertigo banner courtesy of Frank Marraffino and Henry Flint.
-Devil’s Due’s Thursday panel played host to special guest Kevin Spacey who took the opportunity to announce a partnership with the publisher and his production company
-Cartoon Network gathered fans to discuss the upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series Friday at Comic-Con
-BOOM! Studios announced a new deal with Disney/PIXAR to make comics based on their movies, as well as the Muppets franchise.
-The new DC Universe Online MMO game was previewed, and a demo of the game was shown.
-Creator Darywn Cooke will adapt the popular ‘Parker’ novel by Richard Stark to comics at IDW
-Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will publish an episodic downloadable game based on the coming Watchmen film.
-Rick Remender, Pat Oliffe and Jerry Ordway are the new team on DC’s Booster Gold series
-Marvel Animation and Lionsgate previewed the DVD feature Hulk vs Wolverine at Comic-Con
Saturday:
-DC gave fans a brief first glimpse at its upcoming “Wonder Woman” animated feature,
-The film version of the Ghostbusters are back, and in comic form at IDW.
-Marvel announced that Mark Millar is coming back to the Ultimate Universe.
-Frank Cho and Jeph Loeb will be working on “some version” of “The Ultimates”, post-”Ultimatum”.
-Andy Diggle was announced at the upcoming new writer of Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’.
-DC Universe executive editor Dan DiDio announced that DC had acquired the rights to the Archie superhero characters, and the characters will be “incorporated into the DC Universe in The Brave and the Bold, to be written by J. Michael Stracynzski.”
-DiDio also announced “We’re going to be bringing the Milestone characters into the DC Universe proper.”
-IDW announced the first “new” Transformers character, “Drift”, whose car-mode is that of a stylized Japanese drift car.
- Khoi Pham signed an exclusive contract with Marvel.
Sunday:
-Geoff Johns announced that he wrote an episode of “Smallville” this coming season introducing the Legion of Super-Heroes.
-Cloak and Dagger are coming back to Marvel, written in a new series by Valerie D’Orazio.
-DC Announced that long-time writer and Batman editor Denny O’Neil is going to be doing some work post-”R.I.P.,” in a story focusing on the status of Gotham City after the “R.I.P” story. They then showed a video, saying “Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?” and “Neil Gaiman, Andy Kubert, January ‘09.”
