Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

Some interesting movie news that I stumbled across from Neil Miller of Film School Rejects:

‘For those of you who think that nothing exciting ever happens at Cannes, think again. Something exciting always seems to happen — at least in the world of movie news — when you bring together press, movie stars and the people with the money all in one place. And speaking of movie stars, I was perusing through the Cannes coverage over at IGN when I noticed an awesome little scoop about Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg’s next project. According to Pegg, he and longtime friend Nick Frost will be teaming up once again later this year.

“I just finished a script with my writing partner Nick Frost and that is called Paul and we’re going to shoot it later this year or early next year,” Pegg told IGN during a Cannes press event to help promote his latest film How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. “It’s a road movie set in America about two British comic book geeks that get into an adventure across America. Write what you know as they say.”

What?! Simon Pegg and Nick Frost playing two comic geeks traveling across America. Brilliant! Personally, I am down with any movie that puts Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, or a combination of the two on screen. As well, while Pegg would not reveal who he had in mind to direct, he did promise that it would be someone “really cool.” So while audiences may never get to see Fanboys, at least we have Paul to look forward to.

In addition to the details about his upcoming project with Frost, Pegg also made brief comments about the upcoming third film in the ‘Cornetto trilogy’, which is the name given to the films that he, Frost and director Edgar Wright have made together. As we reported back in early April, the third film is tentatively titled World’s End. Pegg said that once Edgar is finished with Scott Pilgrim, they will be back together to do the third film. He also mentioned that World’s End would probably not be the final title, and that the previous release was a “premature announcement” from Universal.

So there you have it, a fantastic announcement from the world of Simon Pegg, who will also be seen as Scotty in the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek reboot.

On a side note: I also sat next to Simon in a movie once. Does that make you jealous?’

Sounds pretty good, no?
