Future-Casting: … Sort of.
« Previous | April 14th, 2008 | Next »I know that Future-Casting usually holds some kind of speculation as to a big book or great story that is coming out this Wednesday. However, after I had a look at the solicitations for this coming week, I thought of a better use for this post: Telling you what I did on the weekend.
This past weekend was The Toronto ComicCon, and fan appreciation show put on by the same folks who present the Fan Expo here in Toronto every summer. We at No Reason and The Watchtower decided that this was something that we definitely wanted to be involved in. Of course, true to form, we left it too late to book our table, and thus were relegated to being “unofficial” Guests at the con. By that I mean, we just kind of declared ourselves guests, and effectively crashed the shin-dig.
Bright and early (for us), myself, Donnie, and Dan piled into our good friend Lar’s van and hit the road for a great day of Comics, Chicks, and Conversation. OK, maybe not that middle one (although, there was a GREAT Dark Phoenix stalking the floor of the Con), but there other two where there in full force.
Normally, I don’t buy a lot a conventions, but The Toronto ComicCON held a lot of excellent deals, and I ended up picking up quite a bit of stuff, including a mint copy of Batman #428 (the issue where Jason Todd meets his unfortunate end). A Generation 1 Starscream, a Frank Quitely-signed Superman print, and the two New Avengers trades I needed also found their way into my bag. But the real score of the day was meeting Steve Epting, artist on the current Captain America series. Steve was nice enough to sign my Cap #1, and has promised to clear the decks for some Watchtowering in the near future, so stay tuned for that.
All in all, an excellent day. We met some very cool people, talked a lot of comics and there was even an impromptu sketch-off between the 3 artists while waiting for some burgers. I can’t wait to get out to more of the Cons and appearances that we have slated for this year. Keep an eye out because, You won’t want to miss us as we hit up the great GTA Tour 2008!
Stay tuned for details!
