THE WATCHTOWER PODCAST INTERVIEWS “BONE” CREATOR JEFF SMITH
Part 2 of the in-depth, 2 Part interview with the Comic Legend airs this Wednesday at 10pm EST.
TORONTO—February 27, 2008—The Watchtower Podcast is pleased to announce that this week’s show will feature an exclusive, in-depth conversation with “Bone” creator Jeff Smith. The conversation touches on Smith’s epic tale of “Bone” as well as his involvement in the self-publishing movement of the early 1990’s, and a preview of Smith’s new highly-anticipated project, “RASL.”
“We could not be more excited to have someone like Jeff Smith on The Watchtower” said co-host Jeff Moss. “Not only is he responsible for one of the most revered (and longest) graphic novels of all time, but “RASL” sounds like one of the freshest, most exciting concepts in comics I’ve heard in a long time.”
“I’m not aware of another story out there like it” agrees co-host Donnie “Questy” Coulter. “Plus, having the maven of comic self-publishing on a podcast-style show is extremely fitting. Podcasting is the newest form of self-publishing, and along with webcomics, have brought renewed interest in independent comics, as well as a great to venue for Creators to promote their books.”
The Watchtower Podcast airs weekly on Punkradiocast.com at 10pm EST every Wednesday. The show is also available for free download from iTunes, and Thewatchtowerpodcast.com.
About the Guest:
Jeff Smith: Jeff Smith is an American cartoonist, best known as the creator of the self-published comic book series “Bone.” Smith has won several awards, including the 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2000 National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Awards (for Bone), nine Harvey Awards: Best Cartoonist in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2003, Special Award for Humor in 1994, and Best Graphic Album of Previously Published Works (for The Complete Bone Adventures) in 1994.
Jeff Smith has for the last couple of years kept busy on writing and penciling a Captain Marvel (Shazam!) miniseries for DC Comics. Smith is currently working on RASL, “a stark, sci-fi series about a dimension-jumping art thief with personal problems”. The series is supposed to start 2008 self-published in oversized black and white comic books. (Courtesy: Wikipedia)
About The Co-Hosts:
Jeff Moss: While most kids spend their days dreaming of being firemen or astronauts, Jeff Moss was firmly holed up in his room with a stack of comic books, shying away from natural light. Jeff co-founded No Reason Comics with Dan Simon in 2006 as a way to get all the comic book groupies. Crushed when he found out they didn’t exist, Jeff turned his attention to his second love, radio. Along with Donnie Coulter, he started The Watchtower Podcast in 2007. Both No Reason and The Watchtower have been growing by leaps and bounds and enjoyed a great reception at 2007’s Fan Expo in Toronto. Jeff lives in Toronto, Canada with his Transformers and works as a producer for Newstalk 1010 CFRB, Canada’s #1 News/Talk radio station.
Donnie “Questy” Coulter: Donnie Coulter’s love of comics goes back more years than even he would like to admit. Ever the voice of dissent on The Watchtower, Donnie is an accomplished artist and has attended Comic-Con’s as far away as Spain. His insistence that he be called “Questy” and his ability to disagree with virtually everything are closer to superpowers than the custom-made Green Lantern ring he is never without. Donnie lives in Toronto, Canada with his Xbox and works as a producer for Newstalk 1010 CFRB, Canada’s #1 News/Talk radio station.
About The Watchtower Podcast and No Reason Comics:
The Watchtower Podcast has been broadcasting weekly via Punkradiocast.com, Noreasoncomics.com, and iTunes for over a year. Focusing on all facets of the comic book industry, Co-Hosts Jeff Moss and Donnie “Questy” Coulter take on any and all issues facing the comic-buying public. From business dealings to content issues, The Watchtower handles all the important news with irreverent humor, stark opinion, and guests from artists to writers to Stormtroopers. They’re all here along with the weekly “Forecast” portion of the show, in which the co-hosts review all the best and worst from the past week and the week to come. The Watchtower Podcast is available for free from Noreasoncomics.com, Thewatchtowerpodcast.com, and iTunes any time, and is broadcast on Punkradiocast.com at 10pm EST every Wednesday night.
No Reason Comics is an online, free comic strip co-created and produced by Dan Simon and Jeff Moss. Best defined as that funny look you give someone when they say something stupid, No Reason follows the twice-weekly adventures of Murph and Jamie along with a myriad of their friends and family, as they search for meaning in a universe consisting of naps, pop-culture references, and appliances that melt cheese on things. On a mission to leave no poop-joke untold, Simon and Moss create bright, colourful, and witty stories, mixed with nonsensical antics. If Penny-Arcade beat the crap out of Player Vs. Player while Least I Could Do laughed, you could probably see No Reason standing on all their shoulders. The best way to explain No Reason would be to simply ask “Why?” The answer of course, is “No Reason.”

awesome show! every week!
i must say the amount of intelligent and analytical content is always snickers-grade satisfying and mr.big caliber entertaining. but good for you! like corn
jeff and questy, if you guys are serious about making comics then i strongly urge you to read Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud. It is… quite good (but really, tons of shit to learn from it). I’m reading his new book Making Comics (I, too, aspire) and it is also pretty damn wonderful.
anyway, that’s enough of me telling you what to do. you guys are doing something terribly right!
All the best and more power to you (by the power of Oa)!
